21 February 2003 by Robert B. Gamble Have you ever had a clogged toilet? I have, and the other day while clearing the clog, I realized that Microsoft Windows works the same way. When using the toilet you don't think this load is going to cause a clog, so you flush the toilet expecting everything will go down, but it doesn't. So (somewhat foolishly) thinking it might work on the next flush, you try again. This, however, only worsens the problem. It may even cause it to overflow (yack!). Then you find the plunger (reboot) so you can try to clear the clog. The first plunge only brings back the S#!t that is causing the clog. You flush again hopping this time everything will go down. When it doesn't you franticly plunge (ctrl-alt-delete) trying to get it to work. This only causes it to splash in your face. With more coming over the rim then before. You wonder, where is all this S#!t coming from, I didn't drop this much, did I? Of course not! Continuing to plunge (flipping the power switch) you finally get all that is in the bowl to go down. Finally! But you realize your job is just beginning. You now have to clean the mess that the plunge made all over the toilet, and floor (scandisk and defrag). Now that that is done, one more flush (reboot again). Now that it worked, you have to flush one more time just to make sure. When everything empties, and fills with clean water, you can safely start to use the toilet again. If not, it's time to get a new toilet (format and reinstall). Copyright © 2003; Robert B. Gamble |
